Historical plaque given to Trout Valley Pool

TROUT VALLEY – The McHenry County Historic Preservation Commission will unveil its latest historical plaque at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Trout Valley Pool on River Drive.

John D. Hertz, founder of Yellow Cab and Coach Co., had the pool built in 1923. Hertz also was a co-owner of Arlington Park Racetrack, TWA and Omnibus.

The pool has been a focal point for community social events for almost 90 years, the McHenry County Historic Preservation Committee said in a news release. People in politics, sports, business and entertainment have used the pool.

Curtiss Breeding Farms allowed its employees’ families to swim and entertain customers from around the country in the pool.

Today, the pool is used by the 250 families in Trout Valley for special holiday events and plays by residents, the news release said.
