Apathy is problem
To the Editor:
On the issue of whether McHenry County should change to an executive form of government, we need to consider that if we add an additional position we add another salary (plus staff salaries) to our already large tax burden. Creating an elected executive would give a great amount of power to one individual.
It only changes the appearance but does not solve the problem of one person having too much power. If you add to the bureaucracy, you will only get the same result as voting Mr. Ken Koehler out. If you believe that Koehler has abused his power as County Board chairman, do what we plan to do, vote him out! If you believe the board is not doing its job, vote the whole board out. Of course, that means that people would have to actually go and vote. The last County Board vote was only 19 percent turnout of voters.
