Closings, deliberations at quadruple murder trial

JOLIET, Ill. — Jurors are expected to begin deliberations at the trial of a suburban Chicago computer specialist accused of shooting dead his wife and three school-aged kids during a road trip to a water park.

The jury could begin discussing more than a month of testimony against 37-year-old Christopher Vaughn on Thursday after closing arguments.

Prosecutors say the Oswego man planned the quadruple murder to clear the way for him to pursue his dream of starting a new life living in the isolation of Canada's wilderness.

The defense says Vaughn's wife, Kimberly, killed the children and then herself because she was distraught over marital troubles. But forensics experts testified for the state that blood splatter and other evidence proved Christopher Vaughn pulled the trigger.

If convicted, he faces a life sentence.
