CARY – Nominating petition forms for the April 9 school board election in Cary District 26 are available.

Forms may be picked up from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Administration Center, 2115 Crystal Lake Road, Cary.

A school board candidate’s petition must be filed no earlier than 8 a.m. Dec. 17 and no later than 5 p.m. Dec. 24.

Candidates’ names will appear on the election ballot in the order in which their nominating papers are received.

Four seats on the seven-member school board are open in the election. Each seat is a four-year term that expires in April 2017.

To be eligible, a school board member must be, on the date of election, a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years old, a resident of the state of Illinois and the school district for at least one year immediately preceding the election and a registered voter.

Elections are nonpartisan. Board candidates are not required to indicate a political party affiliation.

Candidates should be aware of financial conflict-of-interest limitations set forth in The School Code.

Tuesday is the first day to circulate petitions for election.

Jan. 2 is the last day to file objections to nominating papers in the office of the board secretary.

Further information about becoming a candidate may be obtained by calling Superintendent Brian Coleman at 847-639-7788.
