Bears' Forte ruled out

Text Size: AaAaAaAaAa

Bears running back Matt Forte will not play Sunday against the St. Louis Rams because of a sprained ankle, coach Lovie Smith said Friday.

Instead, Michael Bush is expected to earn his first start since joining the Bears.

“No doubt Michael’s excited about playing," Smith said. "When you’re the backup running back, you want to get reps. I can’t think of a running back who’s ever had too many carries.

“He’s excited about it, as are Armando Allen and Kahlil Bell. Those guys are ready to go.”

Forte declined to comment after missing his third consecutive practice. Smith said Forte was making progress but did not indicate whether he might be able to return in Week 4 at Dallas.
