Childhood cancer

Published: Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012 5:30 a.m. CDT

To the Editor:

September is childhood cancer awareness month. One in every 330 Americans develops cancer before age 20. On average, 36 children are diagnosed with cancer daily. At present, childhood cancer cannot be prevented.

Our son, Sean, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on Aug. 18, 2011. We become one of the statistics.

We would like to thank all of the wonderful, caring and generous people who have given us so much support. Family, friends and the community have given so much. We are humbled by all the support. Without this support, we couldn’t be on the road to recovery.

Sean has two-and-a-half more years of chemotherapy and treatment, and we will continue to give thanks to all of you each and every day.
