Ex-congressman joins Community College Board

SPRINGFIELD – A former Illinois congressman has joined the state Community College Board.

Terry Bruce of Olney will get a two-year appointment to the board if he's confirmed by the state Senate.

Bruce is chief executive of Illinois Eastern Community Colleges, which includes four institutions in southeastern Illinois.

A Democrat, Bruce served in the U.S. House from 1985 to 1993. Before that, he spent 14 years in the state Senate.

Gov. Pat Quinn appointed Bruce.

The Community College Board's chairman, Alexi Giannoulias, said Bruce's experience in government and education will be an asset to the board.
