CL man charged with arson, assault

CRYSTAL LAKE – A Crystal Lake man faces charges of arson and aggravated assault, among others, after setting fire to a large arcade game, police said.

Brian Van Scoy, 24, of 1393 Parkridge Court, also is charged with domestic battery, interference with reporting a domestic violence, assault, reckless conduct, criminal damage to property and possession of drug paraphernalia, in a Sept. 20 incident.

Police said they went to Van Scoy’s home, where he and an unidentified 26-year-old man were fighting.

Van Scoy charged at and repeatedly hit the man when the man threatened to
call police, according to reports.

Both men were bleeding, the Crystal Lake Police Department said in a news release.

The men’s injuries were not life-threatening, but Van Scoy was taken the hospital for treatment and arrested upon his release
Tuesday.

Police said in burning an arcade game at the home, Van Scoy destroyed a number of other items and a section of wooden fence around the backyard.

Crystal Lake Fire Rescue quickly extinguished the fire, the news release said.

Van Scoy also was wanted in a Kane County warrant for failure to appear on a possession of marijuana charge, police said.

He is being held at the McHenry County Jail in lieu of $43,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 18.
