Solis’ 2 goals help Harvard rally

HARVARD – The Harvard boys soccer team knows winning the Big Northern Conference East Division is going to be a battle, but so far things are running smoothly.

On Wednesday, the Hornets defeated Rockford Christian, 2-1, to remain undefeated in the BNC East.

“I thought Rockford Christian played well today,” Harvard coach David Abel said. “That’s one of the things about this conference, it’s very competitive.”

Rockford Christian jumped out to a 1-0 lead before Isaih Solis converted on a feed from Christian Carrillo in the first half. Solis scored again in the second half to give Harvard (11-4-2 overall, 6-0-2 BNC East) the win.

Richmond-Burton 2, Marengo 0: At Richmond, goalkeeper Luis Perez authored his fifth shutout of the season as R-B (10-5-1, 6-1) defeated Marengo (2-13, 1-7) in a BNC East game.

Zach Cemail scored both goals for R-B.

BOYS GOLF

Richmond-Burton 176, Wauconda 183: At Countryside in Mundelein, Joey Pegura shot a 2-over-par 39 to take medalist honors in the nonconference victory for the Rockets (15-5).

GIRLS TENNIS

Marian Central 3, Rosary 2: At Woodstock, Abby Waters at No. 1 singles and Haley Frahm at No. 2 singles won to help the Hurricanes slide past Rosary in Suburban Christian Conference play.

CL South 7, Hampshire 0: At Crystal Lake, Rachel Siemon, Kelsey Laktash and Alaina Littlejohn swept the singles matches for the Gators (16-0, 12-0) to remain perfect in FVC play.

All the doubles teams won as well, including the No. 1 team of Marisa and Julia Thome.

Dundee-Crown 7, Woodstock North 0: At Carpentersville, Cassie McElroy at No. 1 singles and the duo of Ali Danhoff and Cristal Tinajero at No. 1 doubles helped Dundee-Crown (5-8) sweep in an FVC crossover. The No. 1 doubles team of Kellie Smith and Marissa Thompson for the Thunder went to three sets before falling.

Belvidere North 7, Woodstock 0: At Belvidere, the Blue Streaks failed to win a set in a nonconference dual meet.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Wheaton Academy 2, Marian Central 0: At West Chicago, the Hurricanes lost, 26-4, 25-14, in an SCC crossover. Franki Taylor led Marian (4-11) with five kills.

Genoa-Kingston 2, Harvard 0: At Harvard, Randi Blazier had six kills, but Harvard still lost, 27-25, 26-24, in a BNC East match.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Huntley 102, Dundee-Crown 65: At Carpentersville, Amanda Cazel was victorious in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and as a participant in the 200 free relay for Huntley.

Rachel Skoog took the top spot in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke for Dundee-Crown.
