Teen gets jail over 100 mph chase

WOODSTOCK – A Wonder Lake man was sentenced to 180 days in jail and two years of probation for a police chase last month in which he drove more than 100 mph in a red Jaguar, prosecutors said.

Koby R. J. Braskett, 19, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to unlawful possession of marijuana and aggravated fleeing or attempting to allude police.

On Aug. 8, a deputy with the McHenry County Sheriff's Office tried to stop Braskett on the east side of Wonder Lake, police and prosecutors said.

Assistant State's Attorney Carlene Kay said Braskett accelerated to over 100 mph in a 35 mph zone in an attempt to flee because he had more than 300 grams of marijuana, which he had just purchased.

Bull Valley police saw the vehicle on Ridge Road north of Bull Valley Road and initiated a pursuit, but Braskett crashed in the 7600 block of Bull Valley Road and fled on foot. He was captured near Draper Road about 15 minutes later.

Braskett also must complete 30 hours of community service and eight hours of traffic safety school. He was ordered to pay $1,250 in fines.

Also as part of the plea accepted by McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather, a misdemeanor charge against Braskett for allegedly stealing several items from the Walmart in Johnsburg, including Febreze car freshener, was dropped.
