5-D Cinema to open in Woodfield Mall

SCHAUMBURG – Chicago's first 5-dimensional movie theater, PIX 5D Cinema, will open in late October at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, providing movie aficionados and thrill seekers the Midwest's first 5D theater experience.

With 36 seats, the intimate theater will address all the senses with 12- to 15-minute movie shorts, including action, classic and thriller genres. Each show features two movie shorts and is appropriate for all ages. Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $6 for children under the age of 11.  PIX 5D Cinema is located in Woodfield Mall, near Sears and Entrance 5.

According to a press release, the 5D cinema combines 3D, physical and environmental effects for an ultimate theater experience. The seats at the theater are 3 Degree of Freedom or DOF, which allows up and down, front and back, left and right movement in sync with the on-screen activity. The experience also includes a wide variety of environmental effects including smoke, fog, bubbles, thunder, storm, wind, rain, snow and more, depending upon the film's storyline.
