To the Editor:
I have read the many letters in this forum that attacked Ken Koehler recently and I have kept my mouth shut and my opinions to myself. But enough is enough. Koehler has led the county for eight years, and for the past three the county has been awarded a prestigious Aaa bond rating, a rating only three Illinois counties have been able to achieve.
This rating does not happen by accident. It takes years of budget scrutiny, prudent spending practices and smart planning. The fact that this rating was achieved during Koehler’s tenure as chairman is a direct reflection of his ability to successfully lead the county during difficult economic conditions.
As County Board chairman, he is a natural target, but he is getting the job done and done well. I wish people would take a look around and recognize how Koehler’s actions have saved taxpayers’ money and maintained a great quality of life in McHenry County before they engage in character attacks based mostly on untruths.
