Bicyclists, walkers raise more than $12,000 for homeless
McHENRY – More than 60 bicyclists and walkers raised more than $12,000 in the fifth annual Pedal (or Walk!) for PADS event Sept. 15 at Moraine Hills State Park.
The money will go to help maintain McHenry County PADS homeless services, a program of Pioneer Center for Human Services.
“We are so grateful to the men, women and children that came out, giving of their time, to help PADS serve the homeless of McHenry County as well as aid in the fight to end homelessness,” Larry Ferrarini, event chairman, said in a news release.
The fundraiser included a raffle and a bike parade, in which children decorated their bikes with streamers and balloons. Live music was by Courtney Reinhard and Jeremy Bates.
Taking competition to a new level, two participants went head-to-head to see who could out-do the other in collecting pledges.Bob Smith and Robert Nottoli collectively raised more than $2,400 for PADS.
The title sponsor was Mercy Health System and additional sponsors were Sage Products, RFP Photography, First Midwest Bank, MAC Automation Concepts, Baird & Warner and The Bike Haven.
