McHENRY – A 19-year-old McHenry man has won $75,000 in an Illinois lottery.

Israel Mancilla paid $5 for a scratch-off crossword game at a Citgo station, 1200 N. Rand Road in Wauconda, where he stopped for gas in August.

He scratched off the ticket at home and revealed a $75,000 prize.

“I told my dad, and he was so happy for me,” Mancilla said. “He knows I’ve been struggling to save for school.”

Mancilla said he buys one or two tickets a week, and the most he had won was $75 and $100.

He said he plans to buy a car for his mom and use the rest to pay for tuition at Loyola University, where he wants to study criminal justice.

“You have to play to win,” Mancilla said. “Buy a ticket;it’s fun.”
