Towne Park to close as part of bypass project

Published: Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 5:30 a.m. CST

ALGONQUIN – A nearly two-year closure of Towne Park will begin Monday.

The closure is necessary for the construction of the Western Bypass, along with a new 100-space parking lot, realignment of Crystal Creek, construction of a new pedestrian bridge, and integration of the park with the Prairie Path recreational trail.

The park is expected to be closed until the summer of 2014.

The Illinois Department of Transportation is constructing the 2.11-mile road that is adjacent to Towne Park. It will divert traffic from the downtown area and is expected to alleviate traffic congestion at the intersection of Route 31 and Route 62.
