Bullet in fire wounds woman

JOHNSBURG – A Johnsburg woman was hospitalized Sunday after she was struck in the face by a bullet that accidentally went off in a bonfire, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

The 37-year-old woman and her husband were having a bonfire in the backyard of their home in the 1800 block of Indian Ridge Drive about 5 p.m., police said. Items unknowingly thrown into the fire included two rounds of ammunition.

As the fire grew, the rounds went off, and one struck the woman in the face, authorities said. She was taken to Centegra Hospital – McHenry with a small wound to her left cheek. She was alert, conscious and able to speak after the incident. No charges are expected to be filed.
