Crash critically injures 2 from CL

WALWORTH, Wis. – Two Crystal Lake residents were listed in critical condition Monday with injuries suffered when a car and van collided Sunday in Walworth, Wis.

Seven-year-old Lia M. Cummings was flown by Flight for Life to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee, and Shawn E. Cummings was flown to Janesville Hospital. The relationship of the two Cummingses, both of Crystal Lake, was unclear. Both were listed in critical condition.

Two others were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, authorities said.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office said Cummings, 29, was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier and failed to yield at a stop sign at Routes 14 and 67 at Lakeville Road in Walworth. Scott D. Bergstrom, 58, of Huntley, driving a 2008 Chevrolet van and towing a 1996 Smokercraft fishing boat, collided with the driver’s side of the car.

Bergstrom was not injured. But a passenger in his van, William F. Binotti, 58, of Tinely Park, and another passenger in the car, Sabrina A. Hinde, 22, of Glendale Heights were taken to a hospital by ambulance with minor injuries, a news release said.

Everyone involved was wearing seat belts, police said. The crash happened about 5 p.m.
