FOX LAKE – The driver in a weekend crash that resulted in the death of a 21-year-old McHenry man has been charged with reckless homicide, according to the Fox Lake Police Department.

Anthony Cechini, 23, of Round Lake, has been charged with felony reckless homicide, aggravated DUI resulting in death, and aggravated DUI resulting in great bodily harm following a Saturday afternoon crash in Fox Lake.

The vehicle Cechini was driving struck a tree in the 100 block of Nippersink Drive around 4 p.m. Saturday, according to Fox Lake police.  The front-seat passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he died overnight.

The passenger was later identified as David Letchinger Jr., 21, of McHenry.

Cechini was located a short distance from the vehicle while attempting to flee the area, Fox Lake Police Lt. Mark Schindler said. He and a second passenger were then transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Cechini was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the incident, Schindler said. All three men were friends.

Cechini is currently being held at the Lake County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
