Resident wins $162K in Lucky Day Lotto

FOX RIVER GROVE – A lottery subscriber matched all five numbers Friday and won $162,500 in the Lucky Day Lotto game, according to a news release.

Michael Egan has lived in Fox River Grove for 10 years. He started his lottery subscription in August.

Since Egan started the subscription, he has received regular emails saying he won $1 in the previous night’s drawing.

People can win small amounts of money for matching two or more numbers.

Egan, who works as a software consultant, said he received an email notifying him he won in the Friday drawing, but it was different: It asked for additional information.

“I was in shock, and my wife almost fainted,” Egan said. “I went to the Illinois Lottery website to double-check the winning numbers.”

Egan’s winning numbers were 5, 11, 18, 27 and 28. He used family birthdays when picking the numbers, he said.

With a lottery subscription, the numbers played stay the same during the duration of the subscription, said Micaela Small, Illinois Lottery spokeswoman.

“Not too many people know about it, but for some people, it’s very convenient,” Small said. “One of the great features is if you win, the lottery emails you to let you know.”

Egan said he plans to pay off debts and may take a trip to Hawaii with his wife, Karen. They have two sons.

“Karen has been an oncology nurse for 30 years, and she could use a vacation,” Egan said.
