SUV owner puts out
‘suspicious’ vehicle fire

McHENRY – The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a “suspicious” car fire that occurred late Sunday near McHenry. Police were dispatched to a home at 2802 Shorewood Drive about 11:45 p.m. for the fire in a white Chevrolet SUV, Sgt. Mike Cisner said. The vehicle had been parked on the street, across from the owner’s home.

The owner recently had arrived home and saw the fire when he looked outside, Cisner said. He put the fire out with an extinguisher; firefighters were not sent to the scene.

There were no injures. Damage was limited to the front passenger seat, which Cisner said is where the fire appeared to start, and to the roof liner. There were no signs of an accelerant, but investigators deem the fire suspicious, Cisner said.
