Dog-tober Fest features numerous activities for canines

Text Size: AaAaAaAaAa

Many canines will be chasing toys, eating peanut butter and running throughout Deicke Park on Saturday for Dog-tober Fest, an annual event for dog lovers.

The fourth annual Dog-tober Fest features numerous dog-related activities for man's best friend and their owners, including flyball, canine agility and disc dogging. The dogs also can participate in contests, like the peanut butter eating competition, and receive a formal blessing from Michelle McNamara, a reverend from St. John's UCC Church in Marengo.

Dog owners can enter into raffles and win numerous prizes. The proceeds go to a local animal rescue, shelter or humane organization that is picked randomly at the end of the fest.

The event is free and will feature more than 50 animal shelters, pet retailers and pet food vendors. The fest drew nearly 500 people last year.
