Two arrested after short chase in Fox Lake

FOX LAKE – Two people face drug-related charges following a brief chase Monday afternoon near Squaw Creek in Fox Lake, according to the Fox Lake Police Department.

Justin Diedrich, 20, of Ingleside, and Melissa Cole, 25, of Hebron, Ind., have each been charged with unlawful possession of more than 30 grams of cannabis and unlawful delivery of cannabis.

Police were called to an area near Squaw Creek Bridge on Route 59 for a report of a traffic incident involving two vehicles at around 3 p.m., according to a news release. A passerby told police that a group of people armed with crowbars and pipes were involved in an altercation.

Both of the described vehicles fled from the area, but one was located eastbound on Grand Avenue, police said.

After refusing to pull over, the Cadillac stopped near the bridge, at which time Diedrich jumped out of the car with a backpack and fled into a swampy area to the south, police said. He was located a short time later along with the backpack, which contained packaged cannabis.

Cole was also taken into custody and found in possession of several small bags of cannabis, as well as a digital scale.

The bonds for Diedrich and Cole were set at $15,000 and $10,000, respectively.

The investigation is ongoing.
