Styf: Bears headed for trap in Jacksonville
The Bears are set up well.
That’s where teams get in trouble.
It’s a happy time around Halas Hall, even though they haven’t spent a lot of time there this week with the Monday night road game followed by a Sunday afternoon road game.
The Bears are well over the debacle at Green Bay and set to face a stretch of four teams that own a combined four wins.
So, theoretically, they could be 7-1 heading into a Sunday night matchup with the Houston Texans, who probably will have a similar record at that point.
The reality is that at some point during this four-game stretch the Bears will stumble again. And this could be the week for them to do it.
Because the Jaguars appear listless.
And that’s when teams can be the most dangerous. Even teams like the Jaguars.
So this game will be ugly.
Way uglier than you think.
Optimism was this high heading into the Thursday night game at Green Bay. We were promised a shootout. And we got a dud.
This week will be another.
It’s the natural up and down of the NFL. Every team is good enough to win. Some teams just aren’t good at it when they get a chance.
Whether it be this week at Jacksonville or against Detroit, Carolina or Tennessee, it will happen.
So enjoy the optimism again. And get ready for the onslaught of negativity.
This is a good Bears team, and any defensive question marks outside of Brian Urlacher have been answered. Jay Cutler is who he is, and Matt Forte is back ready to have a huge game Sunday.
Even the offensive line looked alright Monday night.
But be honest, you know that was smoke and mirrors.
This is a Jaguars team that has combined for two sacks in four games. Expect that number to more than double this week.
And expect a closer game than you’re expecting.
Because in the NFL, and in this Bears season, things are never as they appear.
The pick: I am going way out there, but I really think this is time for the Bears to stumble. It happens to nearly every team eventually.
Jaguars 24, Bears 21
