Cynical politics

To the Editor:

Double-dipping Mayor Aaron Shepley is against direct government accountability and lower property taxes (It’s Your Write, Oct. 2). What a surprise. A recent letter to the editor by Shepley was filled with distortions and half-truths in an effort to criticize the county executive form of government. Shepley can’t be for anything that would endanger his two public salaries and two public pensions that are on top of his position at a not-for-profit hospital.

Shepley was appointed by County Board Chairman Ken Koehler to a Pace Board position that provides a pension, pay and health benefits, but meets less than 12 times a year. He is a walking conflict of interest in this matter because he personally stands to lose thousands of dollars in taxpayer benefits.
