To the Editor:
I recently paid my Marengo water bill. I have a rather small home, two bedrooms, one bath, and have two adults living in it. I had a garden that I quit watering mid-July. The water bill I paid was $240.
I limit shower time and have cut down on loads of wash. I quit watering the garden, and yet my water bill goes up every single time I get my new bill. A co-worker has a daughter who lives with her husband in Woodstock. Their home is slightly bigger and they didn’t have to stop watering their garden. Their bill for three months was $66.
There was a garage sale in Marengo over the weekend. It was advertised as a “we need to pay our water bill” sale. Let’s hope they actually had things they wanted to sell and didn’t part with things they didn’t. It’s completely out of control, and there is nothing we can do about it. It’s incredibly unfair. Move to Marengo, where your water bill can be a third (or more) than your mortgage or rent. Do I sound bitter? You bet I am.
