Pingree Road opens today
CRYSTAL LAKE – Pingree Road is scheduled to reopen today.
The short but crucial roadway has been closed since May as part of a $1.7 million improvement project.
Crews installed permanent, modernized traffic lights at Pingree Road and Congress Parkway, and added dual left-turn lanes from northbound Pingree Road onto Congress Parkway.
The project added a through-lane in each direction – now a total of two in each direction – from Cog Circle through the Congress Parkway intersection.
Funding came from the city, a federal grant and Metra as part of a condition to build its Pingree Road train station.
The work also included modifying the railroad crossing and an 8-foot-wide bike path from Congress Parkway to north of the tracks to connect with another trail.
