CRYSTAL LAKE – A Rachel’s Challenge event will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hannah Beardsley Middle School, 515 E. Crystal Lake Ave.
The event aims to break the cycle of bullying and start a chain reaction of kindness and respect.
Rachel Scott was the first person killed in the 1999 Columbine High School shootings.
Her uncle, Larry Scott, tells Rachel’s story and the five simple challenges she left behind that can change the world.
This program has prevented more than 350 suicides since 2008, drastically reduced bullying and in at least six instances, prevented school shootings, according to a news release.
Parents should note that the presentation will include images from the shooting and may not be suitable for small children.
The event is free and open to the public.
