Kankakee man gets 25 years for robbery

URBANA, Ill. — A Kankakee man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for taking $11 from an Urbana woman during a mugging last spring.

Champaign County Judge Heidi Ladd sentenced 21-year-old Joseph Hairston on Thursday. A jury convicted Hairston of robbery in August for attacking the woman as she walked home from her job.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports that the judge told Hairston that people going home from work "shouldn't have to look over their shoulder in fear."
