Woman accused of suffocating her infant daughter

JONESBORO, Ill. — A southern Illinois woman is accused of suffocating her 11-month-old daughter.

Prosecutors in Union County have charged 39-year-old Stacey Tiffin of Anna with first-degree murder.

The criminal complaint alleges that Tiffin placed her hand over the mouth and nose of Cassandra Tiffin on Sept. 16, knowingly causing the baby's death.

Stacey Tiffin was arrested Thursday after an investigation by Illinois State Police and the sheriff's and coroner's offices of Union County.

Tiffin couldn't be reached for comment Friday. Online court records don't show whether she has an attorney, and calls to her home went unanswered.
