William Pettry, a Lake Villa resident, died at a Jacksonville hospital early Sunday morning after being stabbed at Fioon MacCool’s Irish Pub and Restaurant.
Pettry was in town for the Chicago Bears game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Eyewitnesses said the suspect, Matthew Hinson, 27, cut the throat of the victim, placed the bloody knife in his pocket and calmly left the bar. Police were called to the scene at 12:29 a.m. Sunday.
The stabbing occurred when Pettry was talking with the suspect’s wife, Jacksonville.com reported Monday afternoon.
Hinson was arrested shortly after the stabbing. Patrol officers identified his vehicle. They said that Hinson later admitted to the stabbing to the detectives.
Hinson was arrested and charged with murder.
Pettry’s wife, Karen Hunt Pettry, posted on her Facebook page on Sunday “Today my husband William Christopher Pettry (Most of you only know him by Chris) was taken from his family way to (sic) early. Some idiot has taken his life. Im (sic) so mad, just don’t understand why, very lost right now. Please hug the ones you love because you never know if tomorrow you will have that chance.”
