Living history event planned in Ringwood

RINGWOOD – Step back in time Thursday and enjoy the twilight ambience of the 1850s Powers-Walker House lit only by candlelight and lamplight.

A McHenry County Conservation District Living History Open House will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Glacial Park, 6201 Harts Road, Ringwood.

People today often think of candlelight as romantic, but in the 1850s it was necessary to get the evening’s chores done.

Weather permitting, attendees can enjoy time around a campfire while volunteers in historical attire demonstrate the last of a day’s labor, answer questions and offer tours of the ongoing restoration of this Greek revival house.
