Volunteers to help at Starved Rock State Park
UTICA – Volunteers will be helping visitors to Starved Rock State Park this month as fall colors start to spread across northern Illinois.
The News-Tribune in LaSalle reports that more than a dozen volunteers will accommodate visitors and hikers during the Fall Colors Weekend on Oct. 20 and 21. Site superintendent Mark McConnaughhay says without volunteers the park wouldn't be able to serve its visitors. On a recent Monday more than 340 people visited the park. That number can be in the thousands on a busy weekend.
McConnaughhay says some volunteers drive to the LaSalle County park. He says other volunteers have special skills that let them lead different programs.
