Woodstock begins quest for city manager
WOODSTOCK – The city of Woodstock has begun its search for a new city manager.
Tim Clifton, Woodstock’s city manager for the past 20 years, has announced his retirement effective April 30, the end of the current fiscal year.
While executive search firms frequently are used to seek out candidates for such positions, the city has elected to use a a committee of city representatives and its own Human Resources Department.
Committee representatives are Mayor Brian Sager; City Attorney Rich Flood; Councilman Mike Turner; community leader Denise Graff Ponstein; HR Director Deb Schober; and Executive Assistant Cindy Smiley.
The Woodstock city manager reports directly to the mayor and City Council and heads up a staff of 134 full-time positions in public works, police, finance, community and economic development, human resources, administration, recreation, the opera house; and library.
Minimum requirements include a master’s degree in public administration, business administration or related field and 10 or more years of relevant municipal experience.
A base salary of $140,000-plus may be negotiated based on outstanding qualifications and experience.
