To the Editor:

Letter after contrived letter is sent to the editor for the sole purpose of personally attacking state Rep. Jack Franks for his audacity in standing up for the taxpayers of McHenry County and fighting the County Board on its perpetual tax increases.

These letters slam Franks for focusing on fixing a problem that they argue does not exist. They claim everything is fine in McHenry County because the county has a good bond rating. They question Franks’ motives and say it’s a personal vendetta against the County Board chairman, and even criticize him because his family is a longtime farming family in the county.

Of course McHenry County has a good bond rating. Wall Street loves when government overtaxes its residents. The McHenry County Board, for 21 years straight, has raised property taxes even when it has had surpluses in excess of $47 million. That’s why the bond ratings are good.

Franks has simply demanded more accountability and transparency in all levels of government. He has fought to reduce property taxes while the County Board actually has hired lobbyists using our tax dollars to defeat Franks’ property tax-saving measures.

The referendum for county executive comes down to whether you wish to remain overtaxed by your county government or prefer to have taxes slashed by a more accountable and transparent one. Please vote “yes” for the county executive and ignore the irrational, personal attacks on the one representative who stands up for the people and fights for our best interests.
