Convicted sex offender back in jail from hospital

WOODSTOCK – A former Lake in the Hills man who swallowed what appeared to be rat poison in a suicide attempt after being convicted for sexually assaulting a young girl is back in the McHenry County Jail.

Robert W. Lucht, 56, was convicted on Oct. 3 of three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He faces between 21 and 120 years in prison at his sentencing on Nov. 20.

Lucht had been free on bond while awaiting trial.

Moments after the jury’s guilty verdict, Lucht tipped back an envelope made from notebook paper and poured a granule-like substance into his mouth. Bailiffs took Lucht to the floor once they were told he was trying to swallow something, but he refused to spit it out, saying he wouldn’t go to jail for something he didn’t do.

Lucht was taken by ambulance to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock and placed on a 72-hour hold. Jail records indicate that he was back in the jail custody at 1:35 p.m. Saturday.
