More appealing
To the Editor:
Anyone who runs as an independent in Illinois is definitely more appealing to me than someone who has pledged their allegiance to a political party. Being a socially moderate fiscal conservative, it always is a challenge for me to cast a vote that isn’t a choice between the “lesser of two evils.”
I’ve been looking into the race between Dee Beaubien and her Republican opponent, David McSweeney. The only real difference I see is that of social issues, and many hard-right conservatives are screaming as loud as they can to preserve their outdated and discriminatory views based on Judeo-Christian extremism.
Recent polls now identify a record low number of Americans identifying themselves as “pro-life” (41 percent) and against same-sex marriage (42 percent). I’m not saying you should be forced to change your views; it’s just not appropriate anymore to elect politicians who legislate discriminatory religious values into law.
