CL structure fire displaces 5 residents

CRYSTAL LAKE – A basement fire late Tuesday night left five residents displaced due to extensive smoke damage throughout the home, according to the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department.

Firefighters were called to a three-unit residence in the first block of South Williams Street at around 11:30 p.m. for a report of a structure fire, according to a news release. Crews arrived to find all occupants off the home evacuated.

The fire was later contained to a laundry room in the basement. Damage is estimated at about $10,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No one was injured, and the home was declared uninhabitable until repairs could be made.

Crews from McHenry, Nunda, Cary, Huntley, Lakewood, East Dundee, Algonquin, Fox River Grove, Wonder Lake and Rehab 5 assisted with the incident.
