Arraignment for suspect in Chicago car-bomb plot

CHICAGO — A 19-year-old suburban man is expected to enter a plea to charges he tried to set off what he thought was a car bomb next to a downtown Chicago bar.

Adel Daoud's arraignment is set for Thursday afternoon.

He's charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to damage or destroy a building by means of an explosive. If convicted, he could face a life prison sentence.

He was arrested last month after authorities said he tried to trigger the fake mechanism in an FBI sting. Court documents say he told an undercover agent he wanted to carry out an attack because he believed the U.S. was at war "with Islam and Muslims."

Daoud was denied bond and remains jailed at a federal lockup in Chicago.
