Firefighters suffer minor injuries during Barrington Hills blaze

BARRINGTON HILLS – Two firefighters suffered minor injuries battling a Barrington Hills barn fire early Wednesday, according to the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District.

A total of 33 area departments were utilized to contain the four-alarm barn fire on the 21000 block of Ridge Road, according to a news release. Crews arrived at around 8:20 a.m. and found the structure completely engulfed in flames.

Firefighters were using an ATV to take air tanks to firefighters during the blaze. Tanker trucks also were being shuttled between a Barrington fire hydrant and the fire.

A total of 10 water tenders were also used due to the lack of water access in that area, fire officials said.

The blaze forced the closure of Ridge Road between Merri Oaks and Spring Creek roads for several hours.

The fire destroyed most of the barn.

It was under control by around 10 a.m.

Horses stored on the property were not injured, and the barn was unoccupied at the time of the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
