Man crashes into utility pole in Crystal Lake

CRYSTAL LAKE - A 22-year-old man was flown to the hospital Wednesday after the vehicle he was driving veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.  

The Crystal Lake man was northbound on Ridgefield Road at around 5 p.m. when his SUV left the roadway and struck several trees and a utility police, according to a news release. Members of the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department later extricated him from the vehicle.

The man was transported to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock before being flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The extent of his injuries is unknown.

Alcohol appears to have played a role in the incident, according to authorities.

The investigation is ongoing.

Traffic on Ridgefield Road was detoured for approximately three hours while ComEd crews worked to repair the utility pole damaged in the crash.
