Man gets five years for seeking sex with ‘teen’

WOODSTOCK – Two days after his brother was sentenced to two years in prison, a Palatine man was sentenced to five years for soliciting an undercover deputy who posed online as a teen.

Thomas P. Corbin, 54, pleaded guilty Thursday to traveling to meet a minor.

Charges of solicitation to meet a child and grooming were dropped as part of the plea deal accepted by Judge Sharon Prather.

Corbin was on parole when he was arrested and has been in the McHenry County Jail since August. He has multiple convictions dating to 1983, including a four-year sentence in 1985 for criminal sexual assault, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Corbin’s brother, Rick Joe Corbin, 46, pleaded guilty Tuesday to solicitation to meet a child. He still faces charges of sexually assaulting an unconscious person in Wisconsin.

Prosecutors said the men had contact almost every day with “Steph,” a McHenry County Sheriff’s deputy who posed as the 16-year-old girl on Facebook.

There were repeated text messages and a female deputy had phone conversations with the men that were recorded, they said.

The brothers were under surveillance when they went to several locations in an effort to locate drugs before meeting with the “girl” at a hotel room in McHenry, police said.
