Mosquito haven

To the Editor:

As I watched the morning news, it was so sad to hear about the young firefighter in Chicago who passed away from a mosquito bite, West Nile virus.

I live by the Cotton Creek on the outskirts of Island Lake. Our property owners association, Giant Oak Property Owners Association, has been trying for the past five years to get help in regards to opening up Cotton Creek. This creek handles the stormwater runoff for Island Lake. The creek is silted shut. The standing, stagnant water in the creek is a haven for mosquitoes. The Fox Waterway has the equipment to help.
