Chicago schools CEO replaced after 17 months

CHICAGO – Chicago Public Schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard has stepped down after a little more than a year in the post.

The move comes about three weeks after CPS and the Chicago Teachers Union resolved the first teachers strike in the city in a quarter century.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel named Brizard to the post 17 months ago. He is being replaced by Barbara Byrd-Bennett, who has been filling in as Chicago's interim chief education officer.
