Rockford officers on leave after fatal shooting

ROCKFORD, Ill. — The Rockford Police Department has placed three officers on leave after a fatal shooting.

Police Chief Chet Epperson says the officers responded to a call Thursday from a family member concerned about the welfare of an 18-year-old man. Police say the family member also said the teen was possibly armed.

Authorities say the officers saw someone matching the description they were given and chased him. Epperson didn't say if the victim displayed a weapon or fired at officers. There's also no word on how many times the officers shot the victim.
