Marengo wins soccer playoff opener
ROCKFORD – Marengo’s boys soccer team won its opening-round game Friday at the IHSA Class 2A Belvidere Regional, but it took going to penalty kicks.
The Indians defeated Rockford East, 2-1, by outscoring the E-Rabs, 3-2, in penalty kicks. Ryan Vega-Perez scored Marengo’s only goal in the second half.
Marengo, the No. 5 seed, will play No. 1 seed Freeport at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
