Police: Man thought he was meeting girl for sex

TINLEY PARK (AP) — Police say they've arrested a 44-year-old man who thought he was meeting a 16-year-old girl for sex.

Tinley Park police say Matthew Whitlock was trying to arrange a sexual encounter after responding to an ad posted on Craigslist by officers pretending to be a 16-year-old girl.

According to a police report, he was arrested Thursday after showing up a Tinley Park restaurant where he'd asked to meet the girl.

He's charged with indecent solicitation of a child over the Internet.

According to police, Whitlock responded to the ad soon after it was posted Monday and investigators exchanged emails with him in which he asked to have sex with the girl.

Whitlock is from the Chicago suburb of Palos Park. He was jailed pending a bond hearing.
