Modernize government
To the Editor:
Did you know that McHenry County Board members who attend two meetings a month that average two hours each get paid $21,000 a year? They also receive free health care for themselves and subsidized health care for their family, and a generous pension. All together, these compensation packages exceed $50,000 a year for 22 members. The vice chairman and chairman salary and perks are well in excess of $100,000 each.
Where else can one receive such a generous, taxpayer-funded package but in McHenry County government. If a county executive were elected by the people, that person could introduce cost-saving measures. It’s possible that a county executive would propose the elimination of these unjustifiable perks.
