Chill for Alex fundraiser set at McHenry restaurant

McHENRY – The third annual Chill for Alex event to support the Alex Baer Memorial Fund will take place Saturday at The Snuggery.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. at the restaurant, 801 N. River Road, McHenry.

It will include a silent auction, prizes, a bags tournament, a dunk tank and entertainment. The Snuggery will donate 15 percent of drink sales and 25 percent of food sales during the event to the Alex Baer Memorial Fund.

Baer died in 2010 after a skateboarding accident near his home. He would have turned 19 years old on Tuesday, Oct. 23, a friend said in an email to the Northwest Herald.

The Alex Baer Memorial Fund is a scholarship program for a Warrior basketball athlete to advance to the next level of education. In spring 2011, the first scholarship was awarded to a McHenry High School senior basketball player.
