CHICAGO (AP) — Attorneys have filed a class-action lawsuit to demand new hearings for scores of imprisoned men who claim their confessions were extracted by torture at the hands of Chicago police.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday in Cook County gives new hope to more than 100 people who had filed torture claims with a commission of inquiry whose work was halted this summer by budget cuts. Only six of those cases had been referred to a judge.

Attorney Locke Bowman told reporters the lawsuit asks for new hearings for all of those whom he referred to as "a forgotten group of men."
