Illinois donates surplus winter gear to homeless
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The state of Illinois has donated more than $1.1 million in surplus winter gear to help make sure the homeless stay warm this winter
The Illinois Department of Central Management Services says it is distributing coats, boots, sleeping bags and other gear to almost 60 charities, churches and shelters throughout the state.
CMS Director Malcolm Weems says the gear should be able to help thousands of homeless people in Illinois, including many veterans and senior citizens.
